Statement by Mr. Guillaume Kigbafori Soro, former Prime Minister -Minister of Defense, former President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire following the attacks on the residences of His Excellency Henri Konan Bédié and members of the opposition national politics
Mr. Guillaume Kigbafori Soro, former Prime Minister -Minister of Defense, former President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, President of Générations et Peuples Solidaires, learns that on the night of November 2 to 3, 2020, elements belonging to units of the Ivorian defense and security forces clearly identified, carried out attacks with the weapon of war against the residence of the President of the National Transitional Council (CNT), His Excellency Henri Konan Bédié and those of eminent political figures that are MM. Pascal Affi N’Guessan, Albert Mabri Toikeusse and Assoa Adou.
These simultaneous and coordinated attacks clearly follow the establishment of the National Transitional Council (CNT) and the appointment of His Excellency Henri Konan Bédié to chair it.
These operations are the work of unruly elements of the Ivorian armed forces who, indoctrinated, have decided to obey illegal orders, emanating from a personality who no longer holds the constitutional power to command the Ivorian armed forces. This is the former president Mr. Alassane Ouattara.
That is why, as a member of the National Transitional Council, I give my full support to President Henri Konan Bédié and show my unwavering solidarity with all the personalities who are victims of this series of targeted attacks.
Considering the serious circumstances and taking into account the imperatives of a strategic order, I urge the National Transitional Council to appoint to the responsibilities of National Defense, a civilian personality with a good knowledge of the armies and the security forces.
I call on soldiers, non-commissioned officers, senior officers, general officers of the defense and security forces, to remain strictly in the path of republican legality. I warn the militiamen and other groups of armed civilians of the serious consequences that are sure to flow from their criminal acts. I call on the defense and security forces to assume their responsibilities now to immediately restore order, security and peace throughout the country.
Your priority must be the Ivorian populations, to secure the members of the National Transition Council and their property. It is useless to remind members of the defense and security forces that whoever gets in the way of republican legality will answer for their actions before a court martial.
I call on the courageous people of Côte d’Ivoire to stand, determined and step up the mobilization from the countryside, villages and towns, until final victory.
