The President of the Commission of the African Union, HE Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat is deeply concerned by the evolution of the political and security situation in the Central African Republic and condemns in the strongest terms the upsurge in acts of violence in certain regions of the country having caused loss of human life and aimed at disrupting the ongoing electoral process. He also condemns any collusion between certain political actors and armed groups.

The President of the Commission reminds all Central African political actors that elections remain the only legitimate means of gaining power and invites them to work together for the holding of elections in accordance with the constitution of the Central African Republic and standards. and international, continental and regional principles governing democratic elections in Africa.

The President of the Commission also calls on all stakeholders and the entire Central African population for calm and restraint. It urges them to work for the full implementation of the peace agreements in order to find consensual solutions aimed at preserving peace, stability and social cohesion.

The President of the Commission reaffirms the solidarity and support of the African Union for the Central African people and reiterates the constant commitment of the continental organization alongside the Economic Community of Central African States and regional mechanisms, to support the holding of credible, transparent and democratic elections.

In support of the efforts of the Central African Government, the African Union Commission will deploy an Election Observation Mission alongside the United Nations, the Economic Community of Central African States and other international organizations.
