The Minister of the Digital Economy and the Post, Mamadou Sanogo, chaired, yesterday at Postel 2001, an information meeting, relating to the switching of telephone numbers from 8 to 10 digits, with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority / TIC de Côte d’Ivoire (ARTCI) and all the telephone operators in Côte d’Ivoire.

Minister Mamadou Sanogo reassures that the operation to be carried out on January 31, 2021 at 00 am is currently in a state of progress. “As soon as the Council of Ministers next week, I will make a point of informing the government of the good progress of this operation,” he said.

Against the background of technical explanations, ARTCI Director General Bilé Diéméléou confirmed that the counting process is going very well. He explained, among other things, that the upgrading of networks by the operators ended on October 31, 2020, the work on the portability platform has been completed and that the functional tests carried out are conclusive. “The operators presented their changeover plan.

To this end, minor disturbances could be felt during the tipping operation. The changeover periods are from 00h to 5h in the morning on the night of Saturday 30 to Sunday 31 January 2021. And the latest information that we have, make us believe that the changeover from 30 to 31 January 2021 will be a success, ”indicated Bilé Diéméléou.

Who specified that to guarantee the success of this operation, a monitoring team, made up of representatives of ARTCI, the Ministry of the Digital Economy, telephone operators and manager of the mobile number portability platform, has was put in place to pass all the information related to the changeover to the resource persons.

The CEO also announced that ARTCI has implemented an automatic 8 to 10 digit contact conversion application for smartphones. He informed that a website (www.pnn.artci.ci) has been set up to address important concerns and provide general information on the new national numbering plan.

According to this, a quality of service before and after switchover operation was also developed to confirm the return to normal after the switchover. “Five other app developers have submitted their apps to us. They are authorized to put their product online through a confidentiality clause, ”Bilé Diéméléou said.

Who also wanted to reassure that while waiting to master these applications and to avoid major disturbances, users will be able to communicate with 8-digit numbers. “Operators are allowed to have numbers 8 and 10 coexist until February 28, 2021,” he said.
