The Ivorian Prime Minister, Patrick Achi, on August 27, 2021 in Abidjan, welcomed the conclusions of the 27th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) aimed at making it a more viable structure.
“All of these points form the basis of my hope that this Congress will have laid the foundations for the consolidation and fortification of the Universal Postal Union, in a world where the pace of change and technological evolution requires a capacity for permanent adaptation, continuous progress and acute pragmatism, ”said Patrick Achi.
The Head of Government welcomed the quality of the work of the Congress and above all the relevant and innovative ideas for reform formulated to provide appropriate solutions to the problems affecting the viability and survival of the UPU.
Patrick Achi noted the relevance of the three pillars of the Abidjan World Postal Strategy which will guide the actions of the UPU over the period 2021-2025. They are as follows: strengthening the mandate of the UPU as a forum for postal sector actors; strengthening the UPU’s mandate as a provider of lower-cost technologies to postal operators; and strengthening the UPU’s mandate as a knowledge center for the postal industry.
The Prime Minister attributed the success of this 27th UPU Congress to the Ivorian Head of State. “The honor goes to the President of the Republic Alassane Ouattara who has carried and supported this project for so many years. Without his political will, without his constant involvement, without his support, nothing would have been possible. I would therefore like to pay tribute to him and express to him the thanks from all of Africa, “he said.
Patrick Achi assured Côte d’Ivoire’s commitment to fully assume the responsibility of leading the presidency of the UPU Board of Directors for the period 2021-2025. He also addressed his congratulations to those who were elected, after the renewal of the UPU’s bodies, and wished them success in the conduct of their respective missions.
The theme of the Congress which is ending was: “Digitization of postal services, development of e-commerce”. The 28th UPU Congress will be held in 2025 in the United Arab Emirates.
