As announced by President Laurent Gbagbo’s Chief of Staff, Acka Emmanuel via a press release, the meeting between the Wê populations of the Guemon and Cavally regions and President Laurent Gbagbo, is actually taking place, this Saturday, August 28, 2021 in Mama, in the department of Ouragahio (central west of
Ivory Coast).
Indeed, the former Ivorian President, Laurent Gbagbo, receives this Saturday in Mama, his native village, Wê populations, originating from the regions of Cavally and Guémon. At this historic and memorable meeting, several WÊ customary chiefs and executives responded to President Laurent Gbagbo’s call.
Since his acquittal on March 31, 2021 by the International Criminal Court, former President Laurent Gbagbo has received the Wê populations from the regions of Guemon and Cavally who mostly voted “for him” (the LMP candidate, the Presidential Majority), during the 2010 Presidential in
Ivory Coast,
Note that the regions of Guemon and Cavally were at the heart of the crisis, the scene of violent clashes between Ivorians. According to the organizers, this meeting is part of reconciliation and forgiveness.
As a reminder, the Republican Forces of Côte d’Ivoire (FRCI) killed hundreds of civilians, raped several women and girls perceived to belong to the camp of President Laurent Gbagbo, and set fire to several villages in the west of the region.
