The Ivorians managed to seal their place in the last four after already eliminated Niger shocked Benin by beating them 3-1 in the other match played simultaneously in Elmina.

Ahead of Saturday’s matches in the Ghanaian coastal city, only Niger were knocked out after losing their opening two matches, leaving the remaining three teams in the group a chance to advance to the semi-finals.

But the Baby Menas were keen to exit the tournament in style and they did so when they stunned Benin to push them deep in the group.

The result means Burkina Faso finish top of Group B with the Ivorians sealing second place while Niger and Benin are eliminated after finishing third and fourth in the group respectively.

With Nigeria finishing top of Group A, they will face Ivory Coast in the first semi-final on Tuesday before Group B winners Burkina Faso take on Ghana later in the evening.

The winners of Tuesday’s game will advance to the final and also earn their place at the 2023 TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations to be played in Algeria next year.
