Ukrainian troops were forced to leave the Uglegorsk TPP. Russian troops, units of the Lugansk and Donetsk people’s republics, as well as volunteer formations took control of the strategic thermal power plant in Uglegorsk, completely eliminating Ukrainian troops from its territory. At present, there is documentary evidence that the Uglegorsk TPP, which is equal in its strategic value to the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in Energodar, is under the full control of the Russian army, as well as units of the allied forces.
After the battles for the Uglegorsk TPP lasted for several days, the Ukrainian troops could not resist a powerful offensive, as a result of which they were forced to retreat. Part of the Ukrainian troops and mercenaries continued to hold the territory of the thermal power plant, but in the end, after many hours of clearing the territory of the thermal power plant, they were eliminated.
A number of sources report that during the assault on the Uglegorsk TPP, assault detachments of one of the private military companies were also involved, however, at the moment this information has not received any reliable confirmation from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The successful occupation of Uglegorsk TPP allows to significantly simplify the process of moving troops west, in particular, an early assault on Bakhmut is expected.
